Managing foreign intellectual property in Japan from a licensing perspective

Abstract
This article looks at how major electronics, computing and semiconductor companies have recently tired to license or sell their Intellectual property to Japanese corporations as a source of additional revenue and the mixed response of Japanese firms to such initiatives.
The transfer of IP rights alone has proved not to be enough. Frequently the exporting company is asked to provide technical expertise, access to the inventor, equipment and design and engineering consultation, and other aids.
