This report is based on a presentation by Paul Twomey (Australian National Office for the Information Economy) organised by the Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific, University of Sydney and Citibank, in Sydney, Australia.
The Internet is poised to shakeoff niche status and move up the growth curve into the fastest phase of development (Schroder's, 2000), according to Paul Twomey of the Australian National Office for the Information Economy.
This is demonstrated by the fact that it has only taken four years for the Internet to reach 50 million users compared to 36 years for broadcast radio, 13 years for broadcast TV and 16 years for personal computers. The current boom in Internet usage experienced by the Asian region is testament to this statement, and is likely to provide many opportunities for e-commerce interactions between overseas and Asian businesses.
