Description
In the light of the European Lisbon goals, the importance of the conference topics cannot be underestimated. Entrepreneurship and innovation should be the driving force in the transition of the Western economies towards knowledge-intensive economies - a necessity to maintain our current living standards. Knowledge creation and dissemination to society are indispensable to advance into the next era.
The history of the University of Antwerp goes back to 1852, although it was only created in its current form in 2003 after the merger of three different Antwerp universities. The university serves approximately 11,000 students according to the highest educational standards. The hosting Faculty of Applied Economics is AACSB accredited. The conference venue at the City Campus welcomes you in a mix of magnificent heritage buildings and modern architecture.
During your stay in Antwerp, we hope you will be able to spend some time in the city. Antwerp is a pleasant city, full of charm and modern convenience. The city was the 1988 laureate of the 'Europa Nostra Awards' for the protection of Europe's architectural heritage and was elected the 1993 Cultural Capital of Europe. As a working city Antwerp ranks high because of its port and its petrochemical industry. Due to the European Union developments, it has become the hub of major economic activities. Appropriately enough, the gem of the city's second largest industry is diamonds. The volume of the Antwerp diamond trade is by far the largest in the world. Foreign students and visitors will appreciate the city's central location in Europe.
On behalf of the University of Antwerp, I would like to welcome academics, researchers and industrial delegates to the 4th European Conference on Entrepreneurship and Innovation to be held in September 2009. We hope that the conference can inspire you and help you in advancing your professional and research interests.
